A Knockout Night: Celebrating the World Premiere of The Boxer from Somewhere Else: The Ken Buchanan Story

On Tuesday, June 4th, the world premiere of The Boxer from Somewhere Else: The Ken Buchanan Story took place at Cineworld Fountainpark in Edinburgh, and what a night it was.

We were truly overwhelmed by the support, with a full house of guests joining us to mark the launch of this deeply personal documentary about one of Scotland’s greatest sporting icons. The atmosphere was electric from the moment the doors opened, with audiences gathering to honour the life and legacy of world champion boxer Ken Buchanan.

The film, my directorial debut, has been a labour of love for many years. Seeing it finally come to life on the big screen, in Ken’s home city, surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, was an unforgettable experience. It was an emotional evening for many, with laughter, tears, and heartfelt applause echoing through the theatre.

We were proud to not only to have the support of Ken’s family and boxing community, but also welcome a wide range of film lovers, sports fans, and curious newcomers, all brought together by a shared respect for Ken’s story and the themes of resilience, identity, and triumph against the odds.

The response to the film has been incredibly encouraging. Guests praised the honesty, humour, and heart of the documentary, and many shared personal memories of Ken, a testament to the profound impact he made both inside and outside the ring.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the premiere such a memorable event. Your energy, kindness, and support have given this film the strongest possible start.
