Ricky Steedman, Executive Producer
Jason Steedman
The journey of making The Boxer from Somewhere Else: The Ken Buchanan Story was, for me, as much about family as it was about telling the story of one of Scotland’s greatest sporting icons. Behind every frame and every edit was the influence, support, and inspiration of two extraordinary people who are no longer with us: my brother, Jason Steedman, and my father, Ricky Steedman.
Jason and Ricky were instrumental in shaping the documentary from its earliest stages. Ricky, serving as executive producer, guided the production with wisdom, creativity, and a steadfast belief in the importance of telling Ken Buchanan’s story. His experience and insight helped shape the vision of the film, and his unwavering support provided the foundation upon which the project could thrive. Jason, my brother, brought energy, enthusiasm, and invaluable hands-on contributions, ensuring that the production moved forward smoothly at every stage. Together, they were the heart of the project, keeping the team motivated and inspired.
Their tragic passing left a profound void, both personally and professionally. The grief was immense, and yet it also strengthened my resolve. Completing this film became more than a professional goal, it became a mission to honour their memory and the dedication they had poured into the project. Every late night in the edit suite, every challenge in production, was met with the thought of finishing the work they had helped bring to life. The film’s release became a tribute to them, a way to ensure that their contributions, passion, and belief in storytelling would be remembered and celebrated.
Bringing The Boxer from Somewhere Else to audiences was never just about Ken Buchanan, it was about the people who made the film possible. Jason and Ricky’s influence is woven into every frame, and the film stands as a testament to their love, guidance, and unshakeable support.
Though they are gone, their legacy lives on in the film, in the stories we tell, and in the determination it inspired to see this project reach the world. This film is, in many ways, a tribute to them, and I will always be grateful for the role they played in helping me bring it to life.
