We are thrilled to announce the upcoming release of The Boxer from Somewhere Else: The Ken Buchanan Story, a brand-new Ken Buchanan boxing documentary celebrating the life and legacy of Scotland’s greatest boxing champion.
Set to premiere in UK cinemas on June 4th, 2025, the film brings the remarkable story of Ken Buchanan to the big screen for the very first time. Written, produced, and directed by Jamie Steedman, this 15-year labour of love combines rare archive footage, candid interviews, and powerful boxing reconstructions to tell the story of a true sporting icon.
Ken Buchanan, born in Edinburgh in 1945, rose from humble beginnings to become the world lightweight champion in 1970 and was later inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Known for his relentless grit, technical brilliance, and determination, Buchanan’s career included legendary bouts at Madison Square Garden and unforgettable battles with fighters like Ismael Laguna and Roberto Durán.
But The Boxer from Somewhere Else is more than a boxing film. It’s a portrait of resilience, identity, and legacy, capturing Buchanan’s journey not only inside the ring but also the personal challenges he faced outside of it. For fans, it is a chance to relive the triumphs of a Scottish hero. For new audiences, it’s an introduction to one of Britain’s most inspiring sporting figures.
With screenings planned at Vue cinemas across the country, this release marks a milestone in preserving Buchanan’s story for future generations.
